Bang for the Buck

Who says India can't project significant military power into the South China Sea?

Well, I am skeptical in the short run. India will need local allies to avoid a Prince of Wales and Repulse moment that far away. But this is one way to get around that capabilities limit:

The government [of the Philippines] has decided to buy a weapon that could do some serious damage to Chinese forces in the South China Sea. The government wants to buy two batteries of the Indian PJ-10 BrahMos missiles for coastal defense. Each battery has two or three truck mounted launchers, each with two or three missiles and communications equipment. Each battery also has a mobile radar for detecting targets via normal radar or by detecting and locating ship radar.

It's an expensive weapon. But if one hits a Chinese vessel it will make a very big boom.

And in bonus territory, the Russians helped develop the missile. Which will no doubt cause a little friction between Moscow and Peking, too.
