The son of former President Jimmy Carter is running in Nevada for a U.S. Senate seat.
Because when our country is facing a crisis with Islamofascists in Iran, you naturally think of Carter.
Rove is a genius. The alternative is to conclude that the opposition party should be on suicide watch.
UPDATE: Jonah Goldberg expands on this theme. And he does it with some seriousness. It is not a new theme, but the Democratic Party has sold its soul to the Left and must constantly stifle any trace of reasonableness to appease their source of money and volunteers. I do not celebrate this. Their failure to believe in anything but the evilness of the president denies them the opportunity to make inroads based on Republican failures and mistakes.
I want two national parties that see threats to our nation from abroad rather than threats from the White House. It doesn't matter if those parties disagree on how to face that threat, as long as they have the same goal. We managed the Cold War even with a Democratic Party that had great differences over how to approach Moscow. But few in power voiced opinions that we deserved to lose or shouldn't resist Soviet communism at some level.
But at the national level, only one party as an institution is really serious about defending our country today. This is wrong, unhealthy for our nation if it continues too long, and will damage our ability to protect ourselves and win this Long War.
And I don't know what can be done about it. Nor do I wish to comment on it beyond this. This issue has an impact on our foreign policy, which is why I write here about it; but I don't want to veer out of my lane, either. But it is depressing.
