Yes, We Will Have Fries With That

General Petraeus thinks we can do fine at war in Afghanistan. He will not make dramatic changes from the fundamentally sound  campaign plan that McChrystal put in place while under Petraeus' CENTCOM. But one policy change will be welcome news for the troops:

One policy he has opted not to continue, however, is his predecessor's asceticism. He suggested that the fast-food restaurants McChrystal ordered closed on bases probably will reopen soon.

"With respect to Burger Kings, all options are on the table," he said.

Good. I opposed that policy when it was first made. Fast food is not a luxury--it is a tool to fight PTSD. The special forces commander did not seem to appreciate that not all his troops were A-Team killers (and I say that with all the respect and thanks in the world).

Most of the troops really would like fries with their meal. And sleep better for it.
