In the whole Mohammed cartoon controversy, we worry about offending Moslems and "inciting" them to kill and burn. Funny that "our" publishing is deemed too provocative for Moslems who could justifiably react badly; and "their" murder of us deemed as risking an undeserved "backlash" against Moslems.
And there have been other backlashes, big and small. Rumors of a Koran flushing? Attacks and death! Apparently, no slight against Islam is too small not to justify backlash against the West and no crime against the West is great enough to justify a backlash.
And to repeat what I've written many times, I do not blame Islam for the depravity of some of their members. But those murderers claim to kill for Islam and Islam needs to get their house in order to drain the swamp that creates jihadi recruits.
And we have to stand up to the jihadis to help Islam win their own civil war against the jihadis:
Blathering about freedom of religion, we foster hate speech. By protecting the fanatics, we betray the peaceful majority of our Muslim citizens, leaving them afraid to speak out, since the feds shield the fanatics in charge of their mosques and communities.
Let's be clear: Maj. Hasan's terrorism should not result in a witch hunt against Muslim service members. But soldiers who happen to be Muslims must be subject to the same level of scrutiny and discipline as those of other faiths.
Just as we'd expect the Army to get rid of a disruptive white supremacist, we need to cashier anyone who espouses violent Islamist extremism -- as Maj. Hasan did, again and again.
We have friends in the Islamic world who hate and fear the jihadis as much as we do. Why don't we treat moderate Moslems as allies in the war against Islamo-fascism instead of treating them as part of the jihad by acting like we fear moderate Moslems will be offended if we condemn the jihadis?
