A day after a suicide bombing at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan killed four Americans, the U.S. Embassy in Kabul announced it would shut down "as a temporary precautionary measure," the Associated Press reported.
The attack at the Bagram base outside Kabul was bad given how much effort we take to secure it.
The need to close our embassy even temporarily is worse because it looks really bad.
I've long worried that our president just wants to delay disaster beyond his presidency. The only good news is that the Taliban failed to win during the summer fighting season. Over the winter, we'd best correct what seem like bad trend lines over this last year.
This could be a serious problem for our new president when spring arrives in Afghanistan.
