Exploitation

We are exploiting the Ethiopian success of routing the Islamic Courts movement in Somalia.

Our ships are patrolling at sea to keep the jihadis from running by boat and, according to this article, our forces in Djibouti are active.

A gunship, I assume one of our AC-130s, has made strikes against al Qaeda terrorists running:

A U.S. gunship has conducted a strike against two suspected al Qaeda operatives in southern Somalia, but it was not known whether the mission was successful, U.S. news networks reported on Monday.

The U.S. Air Force plane, operated by the Special Operations Command, flew from its base in Djibouti to the southern tip of Somalia, where the al Qaeda suspects were believed to have fled from the capital Mogadishu, U.S. networks reported.

I have to assume that we have special forces on the ground in Somalia that directed this strike. Or maybe drones from our naval forces tracked some of the terrorists.

UPDATE: And our helicopters are in action:

U.S. helicopter gunships launched new attacks Tuesday against suspected al-Qaida members, a Somali official said, a day after American forces launched airstrikes in the first offensive in the African country since 18 U.S. troops were killed there in 1993.

Unless they are flying from nearby ships, they must be on the ground somewhere in Somalia or possibly Kenya.

It's good to know that we weren't just sitting on our behinds while jihadis advanced.
