How can it possibly be illegal for us to hunt and kill the Benghazi attackers?
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Martin Dempsey in testimony on Oct. 10 said the Pentagon’s hands are tied because the groups involved are not covered by the Authorization for Use of Military Force. The AUMF law allows U.S. attacks anywhere in the world only on al Qaeda and “associated forces.”
“The individuals related in the Benghazi attack, those that we believe were either participants or leadership of it, are not ‘authorized use of military force,’ ” Gen. Dempsey told the House Armed Services Committee in his classified testimony during a closed hearing.
Are you kidding me? How could it be illegal to shoot at people who killed our people?
If we need that official authorization to fight back, how can the AUMF not apply to these jihadis who clearly have some ties to al Qaeda?
Remember, terrorists thought it important to attack us on the anniversary of al Qaeda's 2001 attack on our people!
And recall that the date of the Boston Marathon bombing (April 15--federal tax filing deadline) led a lot of people to speculate that it could indicate that anti-tax Tea Party fans could have done it.
If the AUMF doesn't apply because there is no way to assume any links, why didn't the president consult with congressional leaders and then issue an executive order to clarify that these guys fall under the AUMF and put them on his kill list?
If the president is suddenly averse to amending legislation on his own, why hasn't the president asked Congress to amend the AUMF to make it apply?
And if that isn't possible (somehow), who in the Hell is going to object to going ahead and killing jihadis who killed our ambassador and three other Americans, while destroying a diplomatic outpost and a CIA annex? Has nobody explained the age-old wisdom that it is easier to get forgiveness for acting than to get permission before acting?
Tell me that it isn't possible to be a terrorist who kills Americans and get off on a technicality??!!
