A Canadian freelance journalist (Beverly Giesbrecht), working for al Jazeera, was kidnapped two months ago, and her tribal captors just now named their terms. They want $150,000 ransom and the freedom of several jailed (in Afghanistan) friends. Giesbrecht converted to Islam after September 11, 2001, and denounced Western efforts to fight Islamic terrorism. The Canadian government refuses to pay ransom, and the Afghan government will not release prisoners as part of a ransom deal.
Wow, it's like you're either with the jihadis or against them--and either way you might be a victim of the jihadis.
They're pretty sure Ms. Giesbrecht won't mind the irony of her situation.
Am I evil for chuckling just a little bit about her life choices and fate?
UPDATE: Strategypage puts this small story in context. There should be a lesson here for all those people in the West who think they can save themselves from the jihadis by just surrendering to their every whim and grievance. No level of surrender is enough to save you. Just ask Beverly.
