The Mouse That Roared

Presidential candidate Senator Obama says he would invade Pakistan to hunt bin Laden:

"Let me make this clear," Obama said in a speech prepared for delivery at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. "There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al-Qaida leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will."

Obama, already eager to retreat from Iraq, wants to jump into the far larger and nuclear-armed Pakistan that has many more jihadi sympathizers than Iraq has. Riiiight. This would be Class A stupid if I thought he was serious.

But we all know he isn't. This is all part of the Lefty dance--they oppose the war we are in right now because they want to gird their loins and prepare for the real fight elsewhere.

I guess since some Lefties are making noises about retreating from Afghanistan, too, it is no longer safe to just mention Afghanistan.

Iran used to be the "bigger" threat but now that Bush might hit Iran it isn't safe to claim Iran is more urgent.

And since we have used isolation and diplomacy to make progress with North Korea, the Left can hardly threaten war there.

So the Left is settling on Pakistan as the more imminent threat that we must face.

But under an Obama administration no such thing wuld happen. There would be no UN resolution backing us. Congress under current management would never even bring up the authorization to use force legislation. And we'd have to wait for the completion of that perfect plan with annexes and whatnot due around 2015.

And the Left doesn't even believe this. Otherwise he wouldn't be causing Lefties to swoon.

Does anybody believe Obama would start and finish a war against Pakistan to destroy the jihadis in Pakistan? (And under his logic wouldn't that create more jihadis in Pakistan and elsewhere?)

Bizarre. You can't really call it a lie when everyone knows he doesn't mean it.
