Warning Shot

As I suspected, the Trump administration is serious about striking Syria again if Assad persists in ordering the use of chemical weapons:

On Thursday, two senior administration officials warned that the Trump administration could take military action – again – against the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad because of its continued use of chemical weapons against its own people.

The two officials, speaking anonymously as a condition of the briefing, further warned that if Syria’s behavior is allowed to continue, it could serve as a green light to other bad actors that could spell a chemical attack on U.S. shores.

The warning is as much to Russia--which has been running interference for Assad--to control their ally as it is to Syria to stop using chemical weapons.

The French seem to be on the same page:

France said on Friday it was "deeply concerned" that Syria's government was flouting its pledges to stop using chemical weapons and Paris was working with its partners to shed light on recent suspected toxic gas attacks.

Kudos on that 2013 chemical weapons deal that got rid of Assad's chemical arsenal and got him to sign the international agreement to ban the use of chemical weapons!

I'm sure the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran is much better.
