This is Michigan

Mister and I went to the opening game of the Michigan football season on Saturday.

It started out nicely enough. Hot. But lots of excitement in the air.

Fall football is back!

But then we had to evacuate because of storms.

We hung out there a bit before returning to our seats for some more football.

And then we were evacuated for good:

The students had been chanting "we're not leaving!" and the mood was quite festive as the rain poured down. It was a relief after the sun and 90+ degree weather. A slightly amusing part was the announcer, who advised people not to panic and proceed in an orderly fashion. There were no signs of panic and the mood was good. Just disappointment that we missed out on a quarter of football.

Oh, and they ran out of spoons for the Lemon Chills. Mister used his lid as a spoon while I squeezed my cup like a push-up to eat mine. Plus, nobody was going down the aisles selling them this game! Mister would have had a couple more had they done that. They did have someone selling water bottles in the aisle and he was rushed in the heat. I think he could have sold the ice water in the bottom of his cooler.

This game cancellation was a first for Michigan football, I think. You can see the scoreboard/awesome new TV screen with the weather map here. It was really nice to have displayed since it showed that we could make it home during the gap of storms rather than needing to seek shelter near the stadium to ride out the storms.

And I lost my new Michigan cap right after taking that video before it could go through a complete game. I retraced my steps back to the seat but it was gone. Sigh. At least I brought a plastic baggy for my iPod Touch and phone, and they survived.

Mister and I made it home before the big storm hit us. We jogged a bit through the rain and when it cleared for a walk home. The rain really picked up just as we reached our door and we got inside before the thunder and lightning started. I rushed to make dinner but we never did lose power.

An unusual game. Oh, Michigan won. Hopefully that won't be unusual this year.
