One official said the U.S. intends to limit its involvement — at least in the initial stages — to helping protect French and other air missions by taking out Libyan air defenses.
That's what I figured was the only way it made sense for our forces to be limited by the president to days rather than weeks of operations, as I mentioned here.
Still, if we don't send in or create a ground force capable of overthrowing the Khaddafi regime, we will be violating an axiom that I think we should live by when committing military forces: when you strike a king, kill him.
If we let Khaddafi live through this, he'll flip back to being a terror sponsor and Western civilians will pay the price one day.
