So let's say I recently told a crowd of supporters that "I think that John Doe is a scoundrel and liar who would betray his country for vote and five dollars."

There would be quite the reaction as you might imagine.

Of course, my prepared remarks included the line as ""I think that John Doe is not a scoundrel and liar who would betray his country for vote and five dollars. Just ask his friends."

Clearly, I intended to compliment Mr. Doe, and my unfortunate flubbing of the line made it appear to some opportunistic political hacks that I was insulting Mr. Doe.

So back off you cretins. I apologize to no one.
