Nobody Expects the EU Inquisition!

The European Union will address the statements of Iran's Top Nutjob (well, that's descriptive rather than the official title--and no, I'm not embarassed to call a head of state what he is), Ahmadinejad, addressing the Holocaust. If I may sum up his views, "The Jews are making it all up; the Germans should have killed more; and when do we get to kill them?"

The EU will mobilize its vast resources to address this issue:

The EU summit, beginning Thursday in Brussels, Belgium, will address Ahmadinejad's statements "at our urging," Steinmeier said in the German parliament.

The remarks showed "with how much irresponsibility and cynicism the Iranian government currently regards the situation of Israel and the Near East."

"I say again: the government in Tehran must understand that the patience of the international community is not endless," Steinmeier said.

Inasmuch as fear and the element of surprise are not tools in the EU kit, I dare say their attention will worry the mullahs not one bit.

The patience of the international community may not be infinite when it comes to rogue regimes, but it surely exceeds their attention span by a good enough margin. The EU will allow Iran to go merrily on it's way to nukes and missiles so that the next time the mullahs discuss the Holocaust, it won't be with such a wistful look in their eyes.

Still, you have to retain some hope that the EU discussions will result in something--because the EU surely knows all about irresponsibility and cynicism.
