Nice Work If You Can Get It

The British have decided to only fight weak ground enemies.

After letting their armored vehicles reach obsolescence en masse, the British find they can't afford to field heavy forces:

Endemic U-turns, delays, and cancellations [of armored vehicle programs] mean that almost the entire fleet of tanks is hitting obsolescence at once, and the Army simply does not have the money to replace everything over the next ten years. A crisis point has been reached, with no clear way out. The result may well be that the country of Wellington and Montgomery becomes entirely incapable of fighting wars on land against a serious foe.

Exactly! How does Britain wage war at all against any enemy of serious heft on the ground?

Sadly, the British seem to be responding by declaring that such a war won't happen. What if, I asked, a serious enemy chooses to wage war?
