The European Union is a proto-imperial body that wants to strip away the
prefix; and killing NATO is the primary means of doing so. America is
the leading country in NATO, so do the math.
“Everyone is concerned about the sort of unpredictability of the White House,” Lauri Lepik, a longtime Estonian diplomat who served as ambassador to Washington and to NATO, said of the possibility of a second Trump term. “Everyone understands he doesn’t value transatlantic relations — or he values them in a very monetary way.”
No, the European Union doesn't like America. Do not become confused.
Good grief, Trump may be saving NATO in pushing Europeans to meet Obama-era defense spending commitment.
And that first article notes a famous photo that supposedly illustrates the division. But look at the next picture in the series. Different impression, no?
The idea put forth that Trump is awful because Trump's outreach to North Korea
failed to resolve the nuclear problem (and I was skeptical from the beginning) is narrowly true on the
resolution--but so did repeated attempts going back 25 years to bribe
North Korea or ignore them. Some things are beyond diplomacy.
And claiming Trump isn't interested in
protecting Europe founders on the reality that American reinforcements
to Europe demonstrate more commitment to defending Europe than most
European states display.
And don't forget that without America present in Europe through NATO that Europe will revert to its less democratic norms.
When Trump is gone, the EU will find other reasons to dislike America. Count on it.
