A Swarm of Our Own

The drone threat to American forces requires a vigorous response. We are using authority to quickly get countermeasures into the field:

The US Army’s Rapid Equipping Force is fast-tracking new technology to war that can track, jam and destroy attacking enemy drones as a way to respond to an explosive amount of new combat threats,

The systems, called “Drone Busters,” use Electronic Warfare (EW) to interfere with the GPS signal or Command and Control technology of enemy drones, disabling them or throwing them off course.

“We are assisting currently deployed and front line forces to disrupt and deter drone operations on a much larger scale,” Col. Joe Bookard, Director of the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force, told Warrior in an interview.

That's good, but eventually the enemy drone swarms won't be vulnerable to EW countermeasures. We will have to physically destroy them.

And I don't think that the forward tip of our combat spear can carry around ground-based weapons to deal with that threat. We'll need air defense drone swarms of our own to combat enemy attack drone swarms, as I wrote in Army magazine.
