He's Mister Short-Term Memory!*

Well this is just stupid:

Europe—the continent that over the last 70 years has stood like no other for overcoming war and violence with the help of law and diplomacy—finds itself in 2019 a staging ground once more for the competition of the great powers.

The article is about how Germany is reluctant to use its power in Europe.

But how can I take it seriously when it says 1), that law and diplomacy kept the peace since 1945 when it was really American power through NATO that did the trick; and 2), that Europe is "once more" in 2019 a staging ground for great power competition? Again, did the author miss the whole Cold War superpower competition? Ring a bell?

The Berlin Airlift? The Fulda Gap? Theater nuclear weapons? East Germany?

Anything at all coming back to you guys?

Sometimes this is how I feel.

Anyway, I couldn't take the article seriously and stopped right there. I'm sure I missed some important points but good Lord, come on, I can only take so much stupid.

*Am I wrong?
