An Army Marches on Its Figurative Stomach

Now that the national military strategy focuses on large opponents who might challenge America in a war that will require America to sustain a fight through attrition of our Day One forces, our military-industrial complex must be rebuilt with less reliance on potentially hostile sources of components and raw materials.

This isn't a surprise but it is a sign the problem will be corrected:

The U.S. industries responsible for the production of military weapons systems show “a number of vulnerabilities,” a White House report revealed Thursday, according to a senior administration official.

The 107-page report identifies at least 300 specific vulnerabilities -- including a major issue regarding the skilled-labor gap that the administration says “demand(s) immediate action.”

On top of renewed discussions of the inadequacy of the American-flagged cargo ship fleet which are the only ships that can absolutely be counted on for key cargoes and you can see the interest in making sure America can sustain a big fight against a peer military force.

We simply can't trust China as a source of our military power.[link corrected]
