I've noted cooperation with Sweden that potentially gives NATO more depth in a fight to protect the Baltic states from a potential Russian invasion, including this recent sale:
Sweden is buying Patriot air defense missiles. Which will help Sweden be a defended rear area of a NATO campaign to protect the Baltic states from Russian aggression.
Now Finland will have the weapons to make Russian sorties from their Baltic sea ports to reach the Baltic Sea a dangerous endeavor:
Finland is buying a hundred American RGM-84Q-4 Harpoon anti-ship missiles to replace the older RBS-15 anti-ship missiles on its four Hamina class corvettes and to equip four new corvettes. Most of the Harpoon missiles will equip coastal artillery units. RGM-84Q-4 is the latest version of Harpoon and has range of 248 kilometers and an all-weather radar homing guidance system and new, lighter but more lethal warhead.
A long trip up the narrow Gulf of Finland to reach the Baltic Sea will be a dangerous journey for Russian ships if Finland is a belligerent.
Of course, this doesn't mean Finland joins a war to help protect the Baltic states. But it does help Finland deter Russia from expanding the war to Finland if Finland helps in other more subtle ways.
And the capability useful to NATO does bolster Finland's case should it apply to join NATO.
