Venezuela's Catholic Church raised pressure on the leftist government Friday in a deadly political crisis, warning that its drive for constitutional reforms is turning the country into a "military dictatorship."
The plan "will be imposed by force and its result will be that constitutional status will be given to a military, socialist, Marxist and communist dictatorship," the head of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, Diego Padron, told a news conference.
Fewer and fewer people back Maduro and more and more are willing to openly oppose Maduro.
Even as Maduro unleashes violence on the remaining pillars of peaceful resistance:
About 100 government supporters have burst into Venezuela's opposition-controlled National Assembly, where they beat up several lawmakers.
Witnesses said the confrontation came after an assembly session to mark the country's Independence Day.
Military police guarding the site stood by as intruders brandishing sticks and pipes broke through the gate, AFP news agency said.
Venezuela's thug socialist ruler Maduro, of course, blames Venezuela's problems on America, which during the just ended 8 years of the Obama administration apparently carried out a conspiracy to undermine the glorious Bolivarian paradise that would otherwise exist.
Are we getting to the point where Maduro tries to rally shrinking support around a foreign threat that seems like an easy target?
Could Maduro take a desperate gamble to convince his people that the nearby Dutch island of Curacao is a safe haven for enemies of the state and the launching pad for an imminent American invasion that must be crushed to save the socialist paradise that Hugo Chavez passed down to Maduro to defend?
If you think you are doomed, a near-doomed gamble looks good by comparison.
The Dutch should review their defense plans for the Caribbean Sea. And talk to SOUTHCOM, of course.
