They Hate Little Boys With Soccer Heroes

When you are tempted to answer the question, "Why do they (Islamists) hate us (America, or the West in general)?" with some version that relies on something America did wrong to deserve the hate, remember this story:

The family of a young Afghan boy, who gained worldwide fame after being photographed wearing a makeshift Lionel Messi soccer jersey fashioned from a plastic bag, has fled to Pakistan after receiving threats, the father of the boy told CNN.

The family is now living in Quetta and has submitted an application with the United Nations seeking asylum in Pakistan.

"I received 20-30 unknown threatening calls in Afghanistan asking why I'm teaching my kid about football and not teaching him about the Quran," the boy's father, Muhammad Arif Ahmadi, told CNN.

Why do they hate us? The Islamists hate everyone and everything--including little boys who like soccer.

Really, what doesn't anger them?

The real question is why do they hate? Full stop.

UPDATE: Seriously, the ability of even the non-Islamists to find ways to blame America knows no bounds (tip to Instapundit):

The head of Egypt's Information Service has blamed Tom and Jerry for the rise of ISIS - claiming the characters encourage extremism and teach children that you can blow people up.

Ambassador Salah Abdel Sadek said the cartoon as well as video games and 'violent' movies helped to spark violence and extremism across the Arab world.

He told an audience at Cairo University that Tom and Jerry contributed to the notion that violence was a 'natural' part of life.

Why Moslems rather than Americans formed ISIL (ISIS) is left unexplained.

With all the Road Runner cartoons I watched as a child, I should be the head of the freaking Shield of Islam by now.
