What Difference, At This Point, Does It Make?

Let's move beyond the spectacle of Hillary Clinton denouncing Donald Trump for not rebuking a supporter who asserted that President Obama was not born here when her supporters started that rumor (and do you really believe she had nothing to do with it or couldn't have denounced it and stopped it?) during the 2008 election primary contest that she lost to Barack Obama.

No, let's address the outrage that the Trump supporter asserted that the president is really a Moslem.

I find it very humorous that these Democrats indignantly deny that President Obama is a Moslem.

And yet ...

Because, you know, all those COEXIST bumper stickers to combat rampant Islamophobia that at any moment will spring into detention camps and the dread "backlash."

I hate to do this--because I do think Donald Trump is a Clown-American (not that there's anything wrong with that)--but Trump has a point when he says he is under no obligation to correct a supporter who says something wrong about our president:

“Am I morally obligated to defend the president every time somebody says something bad or controversial about him? I don’t think so!” Trump wrote.

Where is the outrage over Hillary Clinton's weasel-word non-denial denial to the Moslem accusation in the past?

"There is nothing to base that on--as far as I know." Hah! That's classic! No obligation to denounce that derogatory and insulting rumor, eh?

When Democratic Party leaders start defending Republicans against outrageous charges made by their supporters--or even their leaders--I'll treat such demands with a little more respect.

Trump is right. Psychotic, but absolutely right.

This could be the greatest election of our lives. But we could let it be the worst because we might get in trouble. Trump has appeal because he isn't worried about getting in trouble. Why worry about even the big things when the horrors of micro-aggressions are all the rage?

A Republican who can demonstrate the spirit and guts without the makeup, big red nose, and floppy shoes will grab that appeal.

UPDATE: Mark Steyn has a good response:

As the week ended, Obama's palace guard in the American media were demanding that every other Republican candidate distance himself from Donald Trump's failure to correct, among thousands of attendees at his events, one who apparently is under the reprehensible illusion that the President is a Muslim.

Read it all, as they say.

Because Democrats proved so good at correcting the reprehensible illusion among their supporters that George W. Bush "lied us into war" with Iraq.
