Boom:
An air strike in Somalia by U.S. armed forces targeted the leader of the Islamist militant group al Shabaab, Ahmed Abdi Godane, Somali and U.S. officials said on Tuesday, but they said it was unclear whether he was killed in the attack.
Reportedly, it was a drone strike. We operate drones out of Djibouti.
You don't hear to much about this front. But it is active, if low level in intensity and profile.
UPDATE: Manned and drone aircraft:
in Somalia last night. So if you'll just bear with me, I'm going to walk you through what I can right now. Yesterday, at approximately 11:20 Eastern Time, working from actionable intelligence, U.S. special operations forces using manned and unmanned aircraft destroyed an encampment and a vehicle using several Hellfire missiles and laser-guided munitions.
No word if it was land-based air or perhaps naval aviation on the manned side.
