Two Words: North Korea

Are the Chinese effing kidding me?

China said on Monday it was "extremely concerned" by a report that Japan has resisted returning to the United States more than 300 kg (660 lb) of mostly weapons-grade plutonium, the latest dispute between the two Asian neighbors.

Apparently, we loaned it to Japan in the 1960s for research purposes.

Given China's aggressive stance against Japan (and everyone else, to be fair), if I was in charge of Japan I would not have given up all 50-warheads' worth of plutonium.

And, you know, there's that issue of China's little rabid attack dog, North Korea, that Peking hasn't seen fit to restrain as it pursues nuclear weapons and threatens South Korea, Japan, and the United States.

Yeah, it's all fun and games until Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Thailand want nukes, too.

I do find it odd that Japan would give up plutonium now, given China tensions.

I wonder how much nuclear material Japan has produced and stockpiled on their own from their civilian nuclear reactors?
