The Palestinians Get Demoted

Remember all the tales of how every problem in the Middle East has to be preceded by a solution to the Israel-Palestinian issue? Remember when everything else had to wait for this solution because Arab anger against Israel over the Palestinian issue outweighs everything else?

Yeah, those were the days. Solve the Palestinian problem and Arabs would coexist with Israelis in harmony.

Hey, the Israel-Palestinian issue isn't resolved and yet Saudi Arabia--the keepers of Islam's holiest places which prides itself on being more Islamic than anyone else--has found common ground with Israel. Over what, you might ask? Well, over our face-plant diplomacy regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions:

Israel is angry at the United States for making an interim peace deal with Iran that does nothing to stop the Iranian nuclear weapons program and rewards the Iranians for showing up to talks. The U.S. disagrees with this assessment and moves forward towards a more comprehensive deal with Iran. Because of that both Saudi Arabia and Israel are now openly denouncing the American negotiations with Iran. Both Israel and the Arabs see Iran as a clear and present danger and consider the Americans naïve in their treatment of the Iranian menace.

John Kerry doesn't care. He already has a place in mind on a mantle for that Nobel Peace Prize he is sure he will get after signing his name to an agreement--any agreement--with Iran that purports to solve the nuclear problem.

Heck, Kerry will dust the the trophy himself rather than have the hired help do it.

Even the plight of the Palestinians takes second place when that is on the line.

The bland leading the blind. Every day I wonder what the Obama national security brain trust will ef up next.
