All Your Islands are Belong to Us

A new island is appearing near Japan.

This is interesting:

A volcanic eruption has raised an island in the seas to the far south of Tokyo, the Japanese coast guard and earthquake experts said.

Advisories from the coast guard and the Japan Meteorological Agency said the islet is about 200 meters (660 feet) in diameter. It is just off the coast of Nishinoshima, a small, uninhabited island in the Ogasawara chain, which is also known as the Bonin Islands.

China immediately issued a map with a nine-dashed line drawn around it, dispatched coast guard vessels to sail around it, and declared it a "core interest" of China, first discovered by Chinese navigators in the 16th century.

A mayor and city council will soon be named by Peking.

Sure, you scoff now. Just wait.

UPDATE: I wonder if China's new "East China Sea Air Defence Identification Zone" includes this new island?
