Only the Troops Overseas Are at War

We're at war. Remember? You'd think that maybe the House, Senate, and president could at least agree to amend the current continuing resolution to provide the Department of Defense some budget management flexibility to cope with sequestration cuts. The cuts are made far worse by the need to cut every freaking budget category by the same amount.

If this is over in a matter of months, the military can recover from lost training and maintenance. If not, the authority to shift spending between accounts should be a no-brainer.

And as I've said before, I firmly believe that even the end of sequester would not save the Pentagon from a future round of budget cuts. Take it now to get some federal spending reductions to slow the budget's growth as a consolation prize, at least.

Although I should be relieved to at least see that President Obama didn't need to call out the military to control the sequester-caused zombie apocalypse that I thought was going to break out Friday morning. We're not at zombie war, so that's something.
