Gone Native

Sadly, the French minister didn't mean "dead" when he said this:

Victorin Lurel, the minister for France's overseas territories, was impressed by the late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez’s funeral and said on Saturday that the world needed “more dictators” like him.

At first, I thought, "way to go!" More dead dictators! But no, the nuance--she oozed:

“I’ll be criticised for saying this, but the world needs more dictators like Hugo Chavez, if it’s a dictator that he actually was. He showed a strong respect for human rights.”

Wow. The idiocy, ideology, and ignorance are just astounding. But no worries for Minister Lurel. His social calendar will remain full. In his own social circles, he'll be praised for being so brave.

Still, what do you expect? French elites traditionally love any thug who hates America. What's the excuse of our left wingers who shed real tears for the death of that man? My only regret over the death of Hugo Chavez is that SEAL Team 6 didn't get him. But I'm compassionate that way, hoping for a quick rather than lingering death for Hugo, I guess.

As for simpliste moi, I do think the world needs more dictators like Chavez--dead.
