Good for the Gander?

I don't understand the charge of hypocrisy leveled at Paul Ryan for helping constituents get stimulus funds even though Ryan is against the stimulus plan.

It is the law of the land despite Ryan's opposition. The money would be spent. Why shouldn't Ryan help constituents get some of that funding? After all, his constituents have to pay for the stimulus whether they get any back, or not.

I can see why liberals would like it if conservatives agreed to pay for liberal policies but not receive those benefits. Why should conservatives go along with that scheme?

I mean, how many liberals who oppose tax cuts actually refuse to accept the lower rates? Massachusetts has an optional higher state tax rate that liberals don't seem to take advantage of. Shouldn't liberals pay a higher tax rate--or if they can't, make a donation to the US treasury for the amount they will save with lower taxes? Doesn't railing against tax cuts while taking those cuts make liberals hypocrites?

I don't believe I've ever heard conservatives complaining that liberals get to pay lower tax rates when taxes are cut.

But I've heard versions of this slam against conservatives when it comes to any government benefit.

Laws apply to everyone. If liberals don't like conservatives using the rules the liberals write, don't write those rules.
