This is an interesting exercise. US and Filipino marines will practice their trade around an oil rig in the South China Sea:

Sabban says the drills involve defending and retaking oil and gas rigs captured by enemies.

I hope it occurs to people that we could help the Philippines better against such hypothetical "enemies" that if we had facilities like Clark Air Force Base and Subic Bay for our Navy the way we used to.
