Let the Punishment Fit the Crime

A teacher told her 2nd graders there is no Santa Claus:

When the 7-year-olds told her they knew about the North Pole because of its white-bearded inhabitant, she reportedly responded that Santa did not exist and that Christmas presents were bought by their parents.

The alleged incident has touched off a commotion in the small school district. All day Thursday the school and district offices fielded questions about the incident.

School Principal Elizabeth Smith refused to talk about it. But Superintendent Mark McNeill said he was investigating the reports.

"This matter is being discussed internally and it would be inappropriate for me to comment further," McNeill said.

I don't know why the school is discussing this internally. What are they going to do? Punish her?

Let it go. Isn't being put on the "naughty" list enough?
