Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth's atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.
This highly speculative scenario is one of several described by a Nasa-affiliated scientist and colleagues at Pennsylvania State University that, while considered unlikely, they say could play out were humans and alien life to make contact at some point in the future.
Well, they do admit it is unlikely. But then again, they do bring it up. I mean, that alone separates this speculation from lots of other unlikely speculation that they don't bring up, doesn't it?
Really, though, wouldn't it be more fruitful to just get our hands on the Illudium PU-36 Space Modulator? Without that the aliens are helpless:
Oh, just one more thing, as Colombo might say, on this speculation. If failing to immediately take expensive (in money and freedom) steps to stop global warming will lead to the destruction of our world, wouldn't those aliens recognize that we are on a path to imminent destruction and not worry one bit about putting together a space armada, sailing perhaps scores of light years to get here, and destroying us?
Honestly, I don't want to hear one more damn word about how global warming skeptics don't respect science.
