Failure Against the C Team

American and other coalition forces that fight are not targets the Taliban want to go up against.

Afghanistan's army is getting better and the Taliban need to think twice about engaging them, too.

So the much maligned Afghan police which we are working on are the target of choice for the enemy.

So what happened when the vaunted Taliban spring offensive hit the police in strength?

About 200 Taliban fighters attacked a police outpost in a remote, mountainous region of Afghanistan's east on Tuesday, police and government officials said, with two insurgents killed during a gunfight lasting several hours.

NATO forces did not need to intervene.

How embarrassing is this outcome if the Taliban hope to avenge Osama bin Laden's death?

The Taliban appear to have stood off and sprayed and prayed. Shoot, in the past the Taliban managed to hit exposed outposts of Americans and cause near-defeats after hard fighting. But so far this year the Taliban can't do more than trigger news stories?

In time, the Taliban will have some tactical successes. But the good guys will have far more. And the enemy will continue their slide to defeat.

UPDATE: So far we haven't noticed any particular offensive in the east.
