Something that has not been recognized often enough is the fact that our report marked the first time illegal acts of terrorism from Hamas were being investigated and condemned by the United Nations. I had hoped that our inquiry into all aspects of the Gaza conflict would begin a new era of evenhandedness at the U.N. Human Rights Council, whose history of bias against Israel cannot be doubted.
Not that world-class stupidity is an excuse. You like to think that to do serious harm, someone has to be evil and dedicated to doing harm. Alas, stupidity can get the job done just as well. He really thought that slamming Israel with little justification could get the sainted international community to pay attention to the deliberate crimes of Hamas? And he worked for an organization that he readily admits he knew was biased against Israel? Really?
The Israelis want the report to be repealed:
Israel said Sunday it was launching an international campaign to push the United Nations to rescind a scathing report on Israeli war conduct in the Gaza Strip two years ago, after the report's author backtracked from key allegations against the Jewish state.
Hey, good luck with that. The UN could repeal it. Heck, the UN could solemnly declare it was fabricated. But it is too late to undo what Goldstone wrote for the UN, even if Goldstone wishes to reconsider his hit piece. Hey, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a century-old fabrication, yet it provides ammo to attack Jews to this day. Goldstone's report may not rise to that level of usefulness, but it will do for now.
