Run Away! Run Fast! Run Now!

What is it with some people who think that appeasement is the way to "defend" ourselves and keep the peace? Here's another case for abandoning Taiwan. The Weekly Standard doesn't think much of this:

Getting the most attention is Glaser’s suggestion that, to avoid a military confrontation with China, Washington should consider what concessions it can make to Beijing, with the most important of these being backing away from any commitment to help defend Taiwan. In so doing, Glaser argues, the United States would “remove the most obvious and contentious flash point between the United States and China and smooth the way for better relations.” And not just now but “in the decades to come.”

Ah yes, it is in Foreign Affairs. So you know it is written by our best and brightest.

There are other people like that, and I've mentioned them before.

How about we avoid war by making sure that if anybody effs with us--or effs with our friends--they understand we will pound them into the ground. Let them retreat. Let them remove the most obvious and contentious flash points between us and them and smooth the way for better relations.

Sheesh. You don't have to even like cheese to be a surrender monkey.
