More than 200,000 people flooded into the heart of Cairo Tuesday, filling the city's main square as a call for a million protesters was answered by the largest demonstration in a week of unceasing demands for President Hosni Mubarak to leave after nearly 30 years in power.
The army won't shoot as long as the protesters behave. What the paramilitary police will do is another question.
Considering the events of the last month in the Arab world, it is safe to say that I had no idea of what was coming when I first noticed the stirrings of something in Tunisia.
In the long run, it may have just been the death of one man. Or maybe it will mean more.
We're watching it unfold. And hoping our government can make it all mean something more than just semi-random deaths and hopes raised and crushed.
