Civil War

Barone writes that the president faces a revolt of his Left over his foreign policy that has continued far more Bush policies on anti-terrorism, Iraq, and Afghanistan that they like:

Adam Serwer of the Center for American Progress on the Washington Post's opinion pages [writes] "There's no question," ... defying anyone to disagree, "that Obama has completely reversed on his promises to roll back Bush-era national security policies."

For it is not economics but foreign policy that has motivated the left half of the Democratic Party over the last decade.

It is true that the Left is in revolt, But I think it is worse for the president than just that. I think the Left itself will be in virtual civil war over the war that President Obama is now waging in Afghanistan but which they no longer claim is the "good" war:

Progressives know that opposing the president is now the highest form of racism.

So progressives can't oppose the war.

But progressives must oppose an unjust and failed war.

But President Obama supports the Afghan war and only racists oppose the president.

President Obama had best hope that Norman will coordinate, because Rahm won't be there to do it.
