Again in the Course of Human Conflict

Today is the 70th anniversary of Churchill's speech about "the few" pilots who held off the German aerial blitz hoping to soften up Britain for invasion. today it is a matter of celebrating "the few" who successfully defended Britain:

Vintage World War II fighter planes will fly over London Friday to pay tribute to "the few" — pilots who defended the country from German attack during the Battle of Britain.

Between July and October 1940, Royal Air Force fighter squadrons battled German bombers that pounded Britain's cities and airfields as preparation for a planned invasion.

Britain survived having so few in 1940. The British will be back to that state in no time:

The Daily Telegraph, which said it had seen detailed proposals for Ministry of Defense cuts, said all three military services face the elimination of major capabilities.

Alas, as is common in the course of human conflict, Britain owes so much money to so many that they cannot afford more than a few to defend Britain.

This is not their finest hour.
