Past Performance Sure Does Look Like the Way to Bet

Given all the deadlines we've set for Iran to do this or that regarding their nuclear weapons programs, it should be no surprise that Ahmadinejad is not quaking in his boots:

Iran's president on Tuesday dismissed a year-end deadline set by the Obama administration and the West for Tehran to accept a U.N.-drafted deal to swap enriched uranium for nuclear fuel, and claimed his government is now "10 times stronger" than a year ago.

Mind you, President Bush was no better on pushing Iran. But at least Bush had the excuse that Congress would have impeached him (since 2007, anyway) had he taken a firm line against Tehran.

President Obama could nuke Tehran and get a second Nobel Peace Prize and a resolution of thanks from Congress.

My one consolation is that the late Saddam Hussein had about the same level of contempt for the West's resolve to stop him.
