Confident of Victory

The president has hailed the transition in Iraq and asserts our victory is sure:

"There will be difficult days ahead," Obama said. "We see that already in the senseless bombing in Kirkuk earlier today. And there are those who will test Iraqi security forces and the resolve of the Iraqi people through more sectarian bombings. ... But I'm confident that those forces will fail."

Wow. I remember a time when presidential statements of confidence in our victory in Iraq were derided by the anti-war side as delusions divorced from reality.

But now the "reality-based community" is in charge, so no need to delve into the president's emotional state of mind to figure out why he is confident.

Of course, this news makes me worry about the future of Iraq.
