Once More, With Feeling

It looks like Syria is going to play America for a sucker once again:

Syria is ready to cooperate with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama and wants him to get seriously involved in the Middle East peace process, President Bashar al-Assad told a German magazine.

In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Assad also expressed some caution about future relations and said he preferred to talk about hopes rather than expectations.

Syria will use talk of hopes to avoid meeting any expectations, but convince America to ease the pressure on Assad's Syria enough to buy more time for the regime. But Syria will not separate from Iran. Syria began its alliance with Iran nearly thirty years ago during the Iran-Iraq War and isn't about to abandon them.

We'll fall for Assad's ploy, believing the the Age of Obama means something to a ruthless thug dictator.
