The Coalition of the Killing

I know that it appears that Russia has unilaterally invaded Georgia, but the Russians have actually assembled a vast coalition.

First we have the news that Chechen goons brought in by Russia are doing Putin's dirty work:

At a checkpoint set up by the Russian Army on the approach to the city of Gori from the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, an armoured personnel carrier blocked the road and riflemen had fanned out in the surrounding bushes, their weapons trained on anyone who approached.

All were ethnic Chechens, whose reputation for pitiless brutality in war made them feared throughout the Caucasus.

And there are reports that on the day the invasion started, a key pipeline that runs through Georgia was attacked in Turkey:

The PKK took "credit" for an explosion that damaged the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline in eastern Turkey. Turkey had earlier said that the fire on the pipeline was not due to sabotage. The pipeline carries about 1.2 million barrels of oil a day.

So there you go. This is hardly a unilateral invasion unsanctioned by any international body representing the sainted international community. This is a multi-lateral war of Russia, Chechen mercenaries, and PKK terrorists unsanctioned by any international body representing the sainted international community.

So, let's get back to productively blaming the whole war on President Bush. Or possibly Cheney.

Code Pink hags, you're on!
