Deaf, Dumb, and Blind

After President Bush exempted the Navy from rules designed to protect whales so our ships could practice fighting submarines, a judge (from America) ruled that the exemption will not stand:

The Navy must follow environmental laws placing strict limits on sonar training that opponents argue harms whales, despite President Bush's decision to exempt it, a federal judge ruled Monday.

Whales are happy. As are Chinese submarine crews. And environmentalists, of course.

Not so happy are the American sailors who can't train to hear enemy subs. These sailors will die should we have to fight a decent diesel-electric submarine with a trained crew.

But environmentalists and at least one federal judge have more important matters to consider. Like friggin' whales. The environmentalists are too blinded by their fervor to see the damage they are doing.

The federal judge took care of the dumb part of this story.
