Straight Talk

The Chinese government is refreshingly frank about what they think about Taiwan's future:

If the Taiwanese authorities stick to its path for independence or de jure independence, separating China and damaging the vital co-interests of China, I think 1.3 billion Chinese people will by no means agree to that. Hence this prospect will be determined by 1.3 billion Chinese people.

And he who obviously hopes for separation of the country will receive historical sin on this aspect and will be cast away by 1.3 billion Chinese people. The Chinese government will act in accordance with the anti-secession law to take any necessary actions to maintain the unification of the country and safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits.

Of course, Minister Cao is with their Ministry of National Defense and so is less skilled at sounding blandly pacifistic regarding Taiwan.

The Chinese are getting ready and they are getting set. The only question is when they go.

Yet when Peking makes a military grab for Taiwan, people here will express surprise.
