Alienating Allies

Congress likes to claim that we have alienated our allies because of the Iraq War.

Yet Congress annoys the Turks by raising the killing of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire.

Seems determined to abandon Colombia because they have a soft spot for Leftist Cocaine dealing terrorists.

And now wants to alienate Ethiopia--the country that put an end to the Islamic Courts movement in Somalia a year ago. Eritrea is aiding those jihadis and is encouraging rebels in the Ogaden region of Ethiopia. So of course Congress is out to hurt Ethiopia:

Sadly, Congress is poised to fuel the march toward war by passing a bill that threatens to cut off technical assistance to Ethiopia, one of our closest allies, if it does not, among other things, release political prisoners, ensure that the judiciary operates independently and permit the news media to operate freely. Ethiopia has already freed opposition leaders, reformed parliamentary rules to give opposition parties greater legislative responsibility and approved a new media law that meets international standards. By singling out Ethiopia for public embarrassment, the bill puts Congress unwittingly on the side of Islamic jihadists and insurgents.

But they'll put the Congressional stamp of approval on Syria. And urge talks with Iran.

We'll be at war with Canada in six months given the way our Congress is going.

UPDATE: Will Congress punish Colombia for being our ally and defeating leftist insurgents?
