Yesterday Was Mass Graves Day in Iraq

Iraqis remembered the atrocities of the Saddam era yesterday (tip to Instapundit). May 16 is Mass Graves Day.

Saddam put 300,000 Iraqis into mass graves during his reign. These victims don't include those killed and buried in the course of regular oppression. But when you overload even Saddam's refined system of torture and murder, ya gotta bulldoze the bodies where you can.

Remember this when you hear people complaining that the Sunni Arabs aren't allowed to just rejoin the government without decent de-Baathification.

Remember these dead when the Left complains about the Shias not doing enough to reach out to the Sunni Arabs. Iraq's Shias are more forgiving about Saddam's mass graves than our Left is of hanging chads in Florida.

Saddam's regime was evil and too many of his henchmen are still running free and adding to Saddam's body count. Whatever your position is on the war, never forget that we destroyed an evil regime.
