Crossing the Border

One of the Left's criticism's of Iraq focuses on the fact that President Bush entered Iraq without the permission of the Iraqi governemt and without even notifying them. It was a terrible violation of Iraq's sovereignty and a sign that Iraq really is under our control.

Never mind that the Iraqi prime minister did not seem too upset about this show of support that adapted to the reality of President Bush's high value target status.

I just want to point out that the President left after several hours.

So for those on the Left who complain about the permission aspect of the visit, what do you have to say about illegal immigration into the United States?

Permission from the country entered? Notice to the country entered? Leaving after a short time? And he didn't take any job away from an Iraqi, I might add.

Such a program of border control and immigration here would be called "racist" by the Left's spokesmen.

Look, I am not here to comment on immigration. On a security and sovereignty front, I do find it absurd that there is even a debate about whether we can lawfully control our borders. And I am generally pro-immigration for those who learn our language (or if their kids do) and assimilate. We are a nation based on ideals and not one based on blood or soil. Accept our ideals--as my grandparents did--and you can be an American as good as any who traces their line to Plymouth Rock.

The differing views by the Left on one short visit versus millions who come to stay is amazing.
