Triple Dog Dare

The EU, after a couple plus years of futilely trying to get the Iranian mullahs to abandon their nuclear weapons path, are just about to get tough--Euro tough:

After discussing the issue with the foreign ministers, EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner insisted Thursday the negotiating door remained open for Tehran.

"We are still ready to seek a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue. But the Iranians should not make the mistake of underestimating the strength of ... Europe. Nobody wants to go to the Security Council, but it might become unavoidable if they don't cooperate," she told reporters.

Whoa. Don't go all postal on us--Euro postal, of course. Threatening to go to the Security Council is the Euro version of telling mom what they've done. I mean, when the German "leader" is boasting he will stop America from using force against Iran, why would Iran underestimate the strength of Europe? When the Iranians have plowed forward with nuclear developments while ignoring European bribes, why would the Iranians undestimate the strength of Europe? When the Europeans continue to beg the mullahs to please accept their bribes, why on Earth would the Iranians have any reason at all to underestimate the strength of Europe?

Why would they? Because although the mullahs may be nutballs and evil, they are not stupid nor are they blind.

Iranians haven't lost much underestimating the strength of Europe thus far. Why should the mullahs expect anything to change now?
