Eeek!!

You have to hand it to the Pillsbury Nuke Boy. He sure knows how to get the press standing on the stool in the kitchen screeching about some non-threat. The latest shriek was prompted by North Korea firing a missile into the Sea of Japan:

Sen. Carl Levin, the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, said on "Late Edition" that Sunday's test shows the Bush administration's refusal to hold direct talks with Pyongyang is leading to an even greater nuclear threat.

Nukes, death, destruction, sea of fire. Right. Whatever.

Look, I'm not defending the nutcase with a UN seat. He's quite insane and loathsome to boot. We must deal with him.

But the missile that North Korea lobbed into the sea wasn't any big deal and no reason to issue prompt instructions to our diplomats to surrender ASAP to Kim Jong-Il:

"The missile that North Korea recently fired is a short-range missile and is far from the one that can carry a nuclear weapon," Deputy Foreign Minister Song Min-soon said in an interview with South Korea's Yonhap news agency. "This isn't a case to be linked to the nuclear dispute."

Clear? Nothing to do with nuclear weapons. It was either a SS-21 or an upgraded Chinese Silkworm anti-ship missile.

You have to hand it to the chunky cheeseball in Pyongyang. He knows how to jerk our collective chain. We need to squeeze North Korea until they collapse. But if our press jumps up on the table every time a mouse scurries across the kitchen floor, this is going to be a rough path to follow to victory.
